Ensuring a Stronger, Safer Canada: Priorities for the RCMP
RCMP Members help keep our country, communities, and all Canadians safe – here in Canada and around the world.
Every day, nearly 20,000 RCMP officers work across the country, providing a unique and specialized policing service that combines federal responsibilities with community policing. From answering local 911 calls to specialized services to national security threats, RCMP Members have your back – and now it’s time for Canada to have theirs.
This federal election, it’s crucial to enhance our local, provincial and national public safety with a strong plan for reliable and effective police service: the RCMP. The RCMP is the cornerstone of public safety in Canada, playing a vital role in keeping our communities safe and our borders secure.
For any new government, public safety must be a top priority, requiring consistent investment and supports to ensure RCMP officers can continue providing the essential policing services Canadians and communities trust and rely on.

Ensuring the RCMP Remains Canada’s Leading Police Service
The next government must ensure consistent investment in all RCMP policing services – municipal, provincial, and federal – to safeguard Canadian communities.
The RCMP is the most capable and trusted police agency in Canada, providing critical law enforcement and community safety across every region of the country with an integrated operational model envied worldwide.
- Seamless, Coordinated Policing: The RCMP’s integrated structure, combining municipal and provincial “contract” policing, federal policing, and specialized services, allows for rapid and effective responses to threats at local, provincial, and national levels. This ensures public safety responses are timely and coordinated across jurisdictions and are geared to address the specific threat.
- Unmatched National Reach: This unique capacity enhances RCMP officers’ ability to respond swiftly to national and global threats.
- High-Quality, Cost-Effective Policing for All Communities: From urban centers to rural areas, consistent investment ensures the RCMP delivers professional policing across all communities. This guarantees that Canadians, no matter where they live, have access to effective law enforcement and public safety services.
For example, a seemingly simple local 9-1-1 call might escalate to a threat of organized crime, international drug or firearms smuggling, human trafficking, cybercrime or another broader threat. And RCMP officers will be ready and trained. The RCMP are uniquely structured and qualified to seamlessly and effectively address a full spectrum of local, regional, national and international crimes.
Over the past decades, though, successive governments have not adequately funded the RCMP. While RCMP officers deliver world-class policing skills and services across Canada, they need proper and consistent resourcing and equipment to combat 21st century threats, such as organized crime, illegal trafficking, and foreign interference, which are placing increasing demands on RCMP resources.
As Canadians choose a new government in this time of uncertainty and change, we must make one thing clear: Canadians expect a public safety plan that is effective, resilient, and capable of meeting any challenge. This is exactly what RCMP officers provide: unwavering protection and service, no matter the threat.
The Solution: Stable, sufficient funding for the RCMP
We must ensure stable and sufficient funding for the RCMP’s municipal, provincial, and federal operations to guarantee that Canada’s police service of choice can continue its vital work of keeping Canadians safe, no matter the threat.
