RCMP Members in Manitoba

Proudly Serving Communities Across all of Manitoba
Members of the RCMP are responsible for providing policing services to roughly 99% of the province’s landmass, serving hundreds of communities across Manitoba, from urban centers to remote areas. Their widespread presence ensures that both densely populated and rural regions receive essential law enforcement services while also allowing for close collaboration between community detachments, specialized policing services and federal policing.

Deeply Rooted in the Communities We Serve
RCMP Members in Manitoba are proud to be part of the communities they serve, and frequently engage in various community activities, including public safety campaigns and collaborations with local organizations to address area-specific needs. These initiatives aim to educate the public about crime trends, safety measures, and crime prevention strategies. They’re also proud to support charitable initiatives, family events and youth outreach to build strong relationships with those they serve.

Youth-Focused Initiatives
The RCMP is involved in youth programs, such as school visits and cadet programs, to foster positive relationships with young community members and promote safety awareness.

RCMP’s Vision for Manitoba
The RCMP is committed to enhancing public safety, addressing emerging challenges, and strengthening community ties in Manitoba. Their long-term goals focus on improving infrastructure, increasing staffing levels, and integrating advanced technology to better serve the province’s residents.
Manitoba RCMP: By the Numbers
Serving Manitoba’s Most Remote Communities
Fly-in fly-out (FIFO) RCMP communities in Manitoba are isolated and remote locations where RCMP officers serve regularly, but do not live permanently or bring their families. Instead, they work on rotational shifts, typically spending a set number of weeks on duty in the community alternating with time off. This model is used for policing isolated First Nations communities and other remote areas that lack road access.
Key Features of Fly In Fly Out RCMP Communities in Manitoba:
- These communities are often only accessible by air (or ice roads only during colder months).
- Many are in Northern Manitoba, including First Nations communities and isolated settlements.
- RCMP Members usually work and live in the community two weeks on, two weeks off, or similar rotations to create consistency for the community and the Member.
- They fly in for their shift and then return to a home base (often Winnipeg or Thompson).
- Some First Nations under Treaty 5, Treaty 6, and Treaty 10 have FIFO detachments.
- Locations include Wasagamack, Garden Hill, St. Theresa Point, Shamattawa, and others.
- RCMP Members work collaboratively with local leaders, band constables, and community safety officers to keep the community safe.
- Initiatives include youth engagement, school programs for young Members of the community, and cultural training for officers.
