Working Together for a
Safer New Brunswick.

Today the RCMP provides front-line service to 70% of New Brunswickers through 39 detachments and that cover over 97% of the province’s landmass. The over
860 RCMP Officers in the province are always working to protect
people and communities across the province.

New Brunswick’s RCMP Members are trusted public safety experts.

  • The RCMP is a proven, reliable policing partner, with a long history of professional service and community integration in New Brunswick since 1932. Recent investments by the New Brunswick Government into the RCMP have helped ensure that today’s public safety needs are met.
  • The RCMP’s deep-rooted partnerships within New Brunswick communities contribute to a safer province. They provide comprehensive services that prevent crime, reduce drug trafficking, and protect vulnerable groups.
  • The NB RCMP has demonstrated its adaptability and effectiveness in dealing with local communities’ most pressing safety challenges, including responding to over 150,000 calls for service each year, up 44% from 2013.
  • Every day, our Members work together for a safer New Brunswick, protecting our families, neighborhoods, and local businesses by leveraging world-class training combined with local knowledge and on-the-job experience.

Costly changes to Policing Services are Unsupported by Residents.

  • Amidst the Province’s recent municipal amalgamations, the RCMP offers a scalable, cost-effective, and adaptable policing model to meet the unique needs of communities large and small.
  • The RCMP’s provincial mandate allows for seamless service delivery across new municipal boundaries, ensuring consistent public safety. The RCMP provides specialized services—such as major crimes, police dog services, and emergency response teams—that benefit both RCMP and municipally policed communities.
  • With a 70/30 cost-share model, municipalities benefit from federal support (equal to $55 million annually), allowing more local funds to be allocated to other essential services like healthcare and infrastructure.
  • Recent independent policing reviews have confirmed that the RCMP is the most cost-effective and efficient police service for New Brunswick, avoiding costly transitions to new models. These reviews found that changes to policing in our communities is costly, with significant impacts on taxpayers. A 2021 provincial review found that a transition away from the RCMP would cost $89 million more annually.

  • 67% of residents in RCMP-served communities are satisfied with their policing services.

  • The majority – 62% – of New Brunswickers do not support increasing taxes to fund new police services, with 55% of residents in RCMP-served communities indicating any tax increases for policing should go towards enhancing existing RCMP services.

  • Funds would be better invested in strengthening the RCMP instead of transitioning to other policing models.

Working together for a safer New Brunswick means investing in the NB RCMP.

  • New Brunswick must invest in additional RCMP Members to address the growing public safety demands and ensure communities remain safe and well-served.

  • The Province needs to invest $20 million over the next three years to hire an additional 50 RCMP officers to keep pace with policing demands and provide community-based services. The population growth in New Brunswick has outpaced the increase in police resources, highlighting the need for more officers to maintain public safety. Over the last 5-years, the New Brunswick population has grown 7.4%, while the total police authorized strength grew only 3.6%.

  • RCMP recruitment is surging, with full troops at Depot, and had over 17,500 applicants nationally last year. Now is the time for New Brunswick to invest in hiring more RCMP Members to serve our communities.

  • Well-resourced police services are vital for preventing crime and responding effectively to the evolving needs of communities, especially those impacted by amalgamation and demographic shifts.
